The boys have  a new hobby:

They've been enjoying building and painting the $1 model kits from Michael's.  I'm still not sure if I like the mess.  I guess I can handle it every once in a while.

In other news:
we had our Primary Program in church last week (where all the kids talk and sing for our church service).  It was a wonderful meeting.  Both of our kids did great.  Joshua spoke about his baptism.  Toby spoke about how Jesus has the power to heal.  We couldn't see Toby from where we were sitting, but it was reported back to us that
1) He was the best singer of the bunch (which REALLY surprised me)...he sang his little heart out, apparently.
2) He kicked his shoe off during the program.  Huh?  How did I not notice that?  When I asked Toby about it he said that his teacher caught it with catlike reflexes.  Ha!  That Tobe!

Here is another beach story.  This one happens to be Ollie's first beach story.  It was the first week of school and Brent had a weekday off.  The weather at the beach was supposed to be sunny and in the 70s, which is GOOD (in Oregon)!  I resisted the urge to have the boys skip school and we headed off to Indian Beach right after school.  I was confident that it would still be warm enough for me to boogie board for the first and only time this summer.  This was my last chance before fall.  The weather was looking good the whole drive...until our final 10-15 minute descent to the coast.  Fog.  :-(

bad for boogie boarding, nice to look at
When we got there I was still very determined to go boogie boarding...I brought my swimming suit and towel down to the beach.  But by the time we hiked down, my teeth were just chattering...high 40s.  Hmph.  I guess sometimes it just isn't worth getting in the ocean...even for me.

Oh well, we still had a beautiful picnic dinner and fun playing on the beach.  And I'm hoping to get a wet suit for Christmas this year (are you reading this Brent?)(I rarely ask for anything.)

5.5 weeks old and already wearing some 3-6 month clothes.  Way to grow!

we're rather delighted that Brent's growing out his hair.

So I'm obviously WAY behind on blogging (for my own personal benefit).  I'm a month + behind.  So keep on reading, as I've added several new posts today.  And more will be coming soon!  Someday my goal is to be totally caught up so that the current happening are what I'm blogging about.

Why am I so far behind, you ask?

Well, there's three little reasons.  I had all these great books come to me at the same time.  You know, the kinds that you can't put down and you barely get anything done around the house until you finish.  I finally finished the Fablehaven series last night.  So let's hope that I'll have more blogging time now.

I've been wanting to make some changes to my blog, but I'm not sure what.  So I added a couple new songs.  I am LOVING the band The Paper Raincoat.  We first head them at a Vienna Teng concert, where they were the opening gig.  Oh, they were awesome!  I added the song "Rewind" to my music list, if you want to check it out...in addition to the song "Sympathetic Vibrations" which has been there for a while.  Vienna Teng is also awesome.  We were introduced by her cousin Allen...one of our friends who went to Pharm school with Brent.  Savvy?  Speaking of my music list...I have changed it so that you have to click play to listen to it.  A lot of you have commented on how much you like my music list, so I thought I'd let you know you now have to click play.  I guess that a few people don't like it when music lists play automatically...so I changed it.  I don't really like that either...cause when I'm checking blogs, I'm usually listening to my music!

A word to the wise, DO NOT pass up the opportunity to see Vienna Teng live in concert.  It is SO good.

Have any of you ever checked out babysteals.com, or totsy.com?  They are deeply discounted baby/kid clothing and gear websites.  I think they are addicting.  I have only bought a very few things...but I see how quickly the items get sold out.  People are shopping vultures.  The thing that gets me is that most days, the things they're selling are things I never knew I *had to have*.  By the way, let me know if you want to join Totsy.  I'll get a $15 credit if I send you an invite.  It's free for you.

When I was out jogging the other day I decided that from now on I'm going to say HI to everyone I pass.  EVERYONE.  No matter what.  I just want to be a friendly person.  So HI!

Ok...I better go to bed.  But I also want to know what is your favorite yummy canned item?  I usually can peaches and pears.  I love to do salsa, but it's a lot of work.  Same with applesauce.

Ollie's blessing outfit...

On Ollie's blessing day it was too busy and too windy/cold to take pictures outside.  So we waited until right after we got back from Utah and he also happened to be 1 month old!
He's also holding his head up like a champ!

 Sweet, special sweater:
I have a very darling and talented friend The Windybrook Spinner, and she gifted us with this beautiful sweater knit by her for Ollie.  The tag said ~6 months...but it's a good thing we tried it a little sooner cause my boys are always really big for their age.  I would've cried if we tried it on after it was already too small.  The Windybrook Spinner has an angel daughter too.

I thought a few shots in the garden patch were warranted because of the cute Peter Rabbit buttons.

Twice  a year the Andaluz Waterbirth Center hosts a potluck dinner for all of their clients families and friends.  In the spring it is at the Portland Children's Museum.  In the fall it is at the Hoyt Arboretum.  We had the opportunity to catch the last 30 minutes of the fall potluck at Hoyt (as Brent had to work that day).  We missed the cedar plank salmon that my midwife's husband makes every year, but we got to sample some of his very tasty chicken.  We got to see the fire dancer perform!  It's always a good time with Andaluz.

I got a picture with these fabulous ladies
midwife Jesica and her baby on the right
Jocelyn (Jesica's apprentice) on the left

We missed my midwife Jennifer in the picture because she was too busy being in charge!
(All midwives are amazing)...but Jennifer is the LADY in charge!  She is great.  Not only does she run two birth centers, but she is a mama to a large amazing family!  I also recently found out the she is the Relief Society President (the women's organization) in her ward.  I wouldn't be talking her up so much, except for the fact that I want to advertise her latest cause here.  She traveled to Haiti last February to provide relief after the earthquake, and she couldn't believe the conditions there...she are her colleagues learned to say "I am sorry your baby has died." in Creole.  So she founded the non-profit organization MamaBaby Haiti...and she is opening a birth center/medical clinic in Haiti for all these underserved mamas and babies.

MamaBaby Haiti can use all the help we can give, so if you've been looking for a great way to contribute to the cause in Haiti and if your heart and soul directs you to give, I know that the funds are going straight to a really great cause.  Check out these really great t-shirts you can buy to support the cause.  And if you know a great midwife or student midwife who would like to volunteer in Haiti, click here.
a big first!

Well this year is Toby's BIG first day of KINDERGARTEN!!  That's right.  Our little Tobe is a big kinder!
Joshua started 3rd grade this year.  3RD GRADE people!!!  I can't believe I have a kid that old.
(I didn't get Joshua's picture until after school)

Toby has been excited for kindergarten to start ever since the beginning of July, when we went shopping for school supplies.  He picked out that big orange backpack and the orange jacket (can you guess his favorite color?) and he brought it home and stuffed all of his school supplies inside and hung it on his hook and waited for school to start.

Toby took a shower in my bathroom to get ready for school, and when he jumped out he was wearing his tie.  (Laughs!)

Then we went outside and took pictures

we walked over to school...Toby took a free ride on Brent's shoulders

 Check out the new classroom!

Ollie and I on the school grounds...on our walk back home

Martha Washington, stalking our garden

After school we had to take pictures again, to include Joshua
I think it's safe to say that Toby is going to LOVE school.
