July 23:
Sunset bay, Darlingtonia Wayside and Heceta Beach!
Our last morning at the Sunset Bay campground...Ollie is totally chill in his pack n' play, and the boys enjoy a few rounds of "Rangerland", a game about visiting all of the National Parks.
Then we head down to the bay on last time to explore...the tide is low!! FUN! So much to do and see when the tide is low.

On our way up the coast, we stopped at the Darlingtonia Wayside, just outside of Florence, Oregon:
Darlingtonia Californica is a carnivorous plant native to Northern California and Southern Oregon. They eat flies and other insects...how COOL!
This is botany we have only seen the likes of on Planet Earth!

Next on to Heceta Beach! This is a great beach we visited last summer when I was pregnant and I was hopeful to return for boogie boarding!
First we ate...Brent prepared a gourmet lunch, extreme cooking style. It was SO windy that he joked it should be a reality show! Iron chef, extreme weather cooking.

Next up, sandcastle building! We FINALLY remembered to bring buckets, shovels, bricks and molds.
BOOGEEEEE BOARDING!!! WAHOO!
The tide was still REALLY low, so it was a bit tricky at first to catch any decent waves...but then it started to come in. And they were the short and crashy kind of waves. Boogie boarding in those kind of waves goes like this: you stand very close to the shore in pretty shallow water, and a big wave rolls in, breaking right before the shore. When you catch one of those waves, you are swiftly catapulted upon the beach. Good times! So good, in fact that Joshua decided today was the day for him to learn how to boogie board!
He did awesome and he loved it!

At a rest stop on the way home...after a trip to Subway, which included Green Lantern kids meal paraphernalia. Has anyone seen that movie? Is it any good? Is it even suitable for kids? Why are they marketing it in kids meals?

I want to go here!!! Jonny would LOVE the carniverous plants! The kids would love the beach sooooo much. We must make it happen sometime next summer. Maybe I'll just drive up by myself since Jonny has to work all summer. That sounds scary!
